A practical guide to the Sacral Chakra

A practical guide to the Sacral Chakra

In this post, we will dive deeper into the sacral chakra and discover more about this energy center such as imbalance symptoms, color therapy, aromatherapy, gemstones, and affirmations.

The Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra is your passion and pleasure center and it is located in the pelvic area. While the Root Chakra is satisfied with survival, the 2nd chakra seeks pleasure and enjoyment.
The gift of this chakra is experiencing our lives through feelings and sensations.
The second chakra is the center of feeling, emotion, pleasure, sensuality, intimacy, and connection.
The energy of this chakra allows you to let go, to move, and to feel change and transformation occurring within your body. It allows you to experience this moment as it is, in its own fullness.
The main challenge for the second chakra is the conditioning of our society. We live in a society where feelings are not valued, where passion and emotional reactions are being frowned upon. We are being taught not to "loose control". And we get disconnected from our bodies, our feelings.
As if this was not enough, we also experience the wounds of our collective cultural struggles over many sexual issues of our society. On one hand sexuality is magnified and glorified, and on the other hand it is rejected. This results in either blocked or excessive second chakra issues.

Sacral Chakra Color Therapy

rainbow color therapy

Orange, a combination of red and yellow, is said to be more balancing than red and good for sustaining warmth. It is thought to enhance creativity, vitality, and sensuality; stimulate socializing, and create opportunity. Visualizing orange may help alleviate depression; stimulate joy and happiness, and enhance receptivity to pleasure.
The color orange is associated with the sacral chakra, located 2-3 inches below the navel. This chakra is related to the reproductive system, kidneys, and adrenals; also with sensuality, sexuality, and pleasure. Working with the sacral chakra and the color orange can help us create a healthy balance between body and mind.

 Imbalances in the Sacral Chakra:

So how can you find out whether your chakra is out of balance?Generally, people with an imbalance 2nd Chakra will feel plenty of shame, guilt, or internal pain.
Passion and love are very hard to come by in this state and impossible to nourish. Self-doubt, depression, and the acceptance of false reality are all serious problems when the sacral chakra is not at its best.
These are areas that can affect every other chakra on your body, and affect your entire being if your 2nd chakra is not balanced. This is why maintaining the positive health of this particular chakra is so important.
When this Svadhisthana chakra is out of balance, a person may also experience emotional instability, fear of change, sexual dysfunction, depression, or addictions.
By understanding this chakra, it is simpler to regain some of that underlying passion that wants to get out. This is the chakra for a person to showcase their creativity and let it out.
People with a blocked (Sacral) Svadhisthana:
  • find it hard to associate with other people and the world around
  • can't keep emotions and ability in balance
  • are unemotional
  • feel insecure
  • fail to deal with life's changes
  • lack self-confidence

How to Balance the sacral

One of the most positive things about balancing sacral chakra is that all it really requires is for you to do more of what makes you happy. It’s doing all the simple things, dance and sing like no one’s watching or do simple exercises regularly like yoga or just go for a run.
Also, try meditation and visualize the color orange, which is the sacral chakra’s color and most importantly – Let Go. Learning to let go of unhealthy emotions, people and memories are crucial as you are letting go of your negative emotional baggage and making space and energy for better opportunities in life.
Additionally, there are specific yoga poses that can be carried out for those who wish to control this center of pleasure and passion and take action on their own.
People with an opened Svadhisthana generally are:
  • passionate
  • present in their body
  • sensual
  • creative
  • connected to their feeling.
  • feeling emotionally stable
  • feeling joyful most of the time
